I have a couple MTH Premier CA-1 cabooses that I have questions about. Will the bulbs that are in the caboose melt when running on DCS?? The lights seem very bright and I am nervous about a fire. The electronics inside show a 7806 voltage regulator along with a couple of caps. Can I add a resistor or two to allow the use of LED'S??? There are a couple of smaller bulbs on the marker lights that need to be changed also.

Any help will be appreciated.

If you leave the light bulbs put a diode in series to the lighting from the pickup roller(s). A 1n4001 diode is sufficient. Using a diode from each roller in opposing directions will protect the roller wire from burning up in a short if there is a derailment. If it has a smoke unit use a 3 amp diode.

Here is a post on LED conversion at least the way I do it,a command and conventional circuit is shown

The series wiring is also good that Bob shows,if it is a simple caboose with 2 bulbs.

Well I dissassembled the caboose and found all lights plug into the circuit board. Each light except the markers, has it's own plug. I tried cutting one wire from each interior bulb and splicing it in series with no luck. What I may have to do is put both lights on one plug and wire the lights in series. It's my luck, one of the marker lights is DOA. Hello mTH!
