Hi All!
This is the HELICAL GEAR SHAFT W/ CHUFF CONT DRUM (drive gear) for the Lionel Heisler with TMCC (6-38027).
I was running mine this evening and the wheels on the front truck seized up and the loco literally stopped in it's tracks. I pulled the gear cover and there is lubrication in there. The wheels on the rear truck continued to spin in place while the locomotive did not move, until I cut the power. The front wheels are locked tight. I can spin the rear wheels by hand and this moves the tender wheels as well, but I can not budge the front wheels.
My question at this point is: Should the rear and front wheels spin in tandem or are they independent of one another? I have owned this locomotive since 2006 and have never really had the need to know. Could the shaft be broken inside the gear wheel, thus the reason the rear wheels rotate but the front do not?
Any help would be appreciated. I can provide more information if I left something out.
Thanks
