I was planning to use this to go across two windows. Does sunlight affect the foam over time. It would get morning sun but when the leaves are on the trees they pretty much cut down on the sun but winter time morning till noon would hit the windows. Any help greatly appreciated..........Paul

Is it safe to assume you are writing about the Pink Extruded Foam Boards, known as insulation?  Sunlight, rather the ultrviolet part of it, will slightly affect the surface. Nothing detrimental, it will not disintegrate in your lifetime.

However, do you want to be known as the guy with the insulation in his windows. Better to place a layer of at least sun resistant plack plastic, like a trash bag, in the opening first. From the outside, the black would be less obtrusive than the pink. Better yet, use something closer to whatever you have over the other windows, I left my curtains closed while my picture window was blocked for the Living room layout and background.

Paul,

I might suggest that the outer surface be lined with a piece of reflectix, it is like aluminum faced bubble wrap, it will reflect heat and sun back to the outdoors, and wouldn't look bad from the outside.

If you need a small piece, I have some scraps, would be glad to mail you one, just contact me off line, email is in my profile.

Home depot and others sell decals you can put on the window, that kind of look like stained glass but will do what you want, to keep the sunlight from heating up the track and such, you may want to look into it. We use it on a window in our bathroom that is next to a bath tub for privacy sake and it works great. You could also use black film like they use on car windows, if blocking light is all you want to do.

Wanted to place that reflective silver film on the south facing windows at the old house and the glass guy said it had to go on the outer storm windows, not the inner house windows or the heat would be too high between the panes of glass.

A picture would help.

What about those mini shades or blinds that go against the window if space it tight?
