I'm considering buying one of the Legacy NW2 switchers from Lionel (2016) and I was wondering about their pulling capability. I've seen videos showing examples of pulling 5 or 6 plastic body cars and wondered if it could handle a few die-cast cars or a Legacy crane/boom car okay. Does anyone have a feel for how much is too much with one of these engines? Aside from the initial quality issues I read about, these look like pretty neat yard workers. Thanks for any insight.

I have a Pennsy and Boston & Maine - both are strong locos. The B&M had to go back to Lionel for a little fix. Otherwise, I’ve run both with up to 10 cars, mixed Atlas, Lionel plastic and die cast and K-line aluminum. Never broke a sweat. They’re switching engines so they don’t move like mainline locos. They can handle a crane & boom car, the Max I would run with these is 15 mixed media rolling stock. Anything beyond that number you may be asking for trouble.

Thanks for your feedback. Sounds like this engine will do fine and be a lot of fun. I appreciate your input .
