I was doing some maintenance on my original Postwar 204 and 208 pairs when a realization raised my curiosity.

The LCCA 208 (something I desire greatly) is a modern take on its Postwar counterpart. The 204 was a 1957 diesel with both powered and trailing units lighted. The 208 manufactured in 1958-1959 with only the powered unit being lighted.

The LCCA 208 has both units lighted, I'm curious then why the units weren't numbered as 204 to be consistent with their Postwar counterpart.

Not a dig by any means, just curious what made the 208 special to be elevated to be reproduced.

I suppose the tie in with the passenger car set offered by Lionel may be more desirable to club members as well.

I believe the 204 was marketed with a freight set, while the 208 was marketed with the passenger set.

So marketing plus desire to keep consistent with the Postwar counterpart apparently makes all signs point to the 208.
