I am in the process of painting 2 E8's, A/A units, in Pennsy levery for a friend of mine - both units are Lionel scale. These were with unpainted plastic shells.
I airbrushed both units, primer first then maroon and then gave them a gloss clear coat. And now I'm ready to do Microscale decals.
I would like to finish them off as though they were fresh out of the shop painted units, so would like a glossy finish. Can I just give the units another gloss clear coat after the decals are set? Will the gloss coat hide the decal film?
I have airbrushed close to 100 HO models over the past many, many, many years. Brass and plastic, steam, diesels, passenger cars and freight cars. But I have always used a dull coat over the decals when they are set. And I have never had any issues. Most all the time, I weather my engines and freight cars, so I really was not looking for a shiny finish.
Being somewhat new to O gauge, and never using gloss over decals, I would like to get some expert advise and opinions as to what is the correct and best way to do this.
Thanks,
RAY
