A few years ago, I made a small layout floor layout for my grandchildren when they visit.  It has two ovals of track attached to a 4' x 7' sheet of plywood.  The plywood is covered with a green artificial grass type material.  I want to use the layout under the Christmas tree this year.

Last Christmas, I tried to use the layout by covering the green grass with white snow-like material without success, too much green showed through.  I would like to be able to just remove the track and lay the snow-like material under the track without having to remove and replace a bunch of screws.  The track is the old K-Line Shadow-Rail tubular track that requires something to hold it in place.

I want to retain the K-Line tubular track rather than using FasTrack or the MTH Real-Track.  Does anyone have another method to hold tubular track in place that is easy and quick so that I can install the white snow-like material for Christmas and then remove it after Christmas and repeat the cycle in subsequent Christmases?

Thank you...

Earl

Have you tried using plastic tie wraps? Put one around the cross-tie and through the plywood. You can buy them at Home Depot in bundles of 500. All you need then is a drill and a diagonal cutting pliers. Don't use a pair of scissors with the tie wraps as it may break your scissors, tin snips will work good too.

If too much green showed through try using a cotton roll from a craft store and sprinkle some sparkle material on the cotton, don't have to be that sparkle stuff, the sparkle is to make it glitter like real snow will when the sun hits it. Then use hair spray to hold the sparkle stuff in place, I used a pump spray type of hair spray and not an a can of hair spray.

I used the cotton and sparkle stuff on an H.O. race car track and it worked well. Just keep the hair spray off the track or wipe it off soon after spraying if it gets on the track.
