Good evening all I just installed a reed switch and magnets, and also upgraded the smoke unit in this Lionel Century club Niagara

for a friend. What a beautiful engine Lionel put out many years back, the whistle is awesome and it runs so smooth. Now it sounds even better and the smoke output is really improved. Thanks for looking.

Alex,

First of all I think I owe you a medal for figuring out how to get the shell off. LOL!

Thank you very much!! That is exactly what that engine needed!! That is one of my favorite engines. I can't wait to get it back and actually run it like that.

That engine never smoked well since I got it. That is smoking awesome.

Thanks Again,

Mike R

Thanks to all of you guys.

Mike your welcome, it took a while to figure out how to get the shell off, but it was well worth it.

Gunny your right it's a beautiful engine.

Thanks Dave1 it's some engine

Hi Dave I was tired of our picture, so I thought I would put a new one.

Jojofry this is a beautiful engine, I really like it. When I first started to dismantle it I removed many more screws than I had to. After a close inspection it was only necessary to remove about eight screws.

Hi Peter, I mount my reed switch on the trailing truck and two magnets on the trailing wheel. I've tried in the past mounting the reed switch and magnets on the bottom chassis and the drive wheels, but the reed switch is very very close too the track and it looked like it will get caught on something. Also mounting the magnets on the drive wheels you will have too use four of them and they will have too be perfectly spaced

to achieve 4 chuffs. Another issue with mounting the magnets on the drive wheels is they can get knocked off by the edge of the chassis as the drive wheels shift. I'm sure plenty of the guys did it that way, and it worked well for them,  but it hasn't worked out for me.

Yup did the same thing the first time .Them i was like wow its just 8 screws the blinder screws and a few on the bottom and its off

Jojofry did you rebuild your smoke unit. If you did I wanted to know something.

When I opened the smoke unit I noticed a very large resistor in size. When looking up the parts on the Lionel site it shows a very thin 27ohm resistor, but like I said the resistor that was in there didn't look like a 27ohm, it looked like a 6 or 8 ohm

resistor. But I replaced it with the thin 27ohm one. Did yours look the same as this one.

Thanks Rick, this engine belongs to  a friend of mine, and it's been with me for a few weeks

and I really like it. I was hoping he would forget that I have it LOL LOL.

I could only hope.  Wait until he see's this.

Also what jojofry said it has a horn and and whistle, and they sound awesome.

Thanks again, Alex
