Hello all,
My MTH 4-8-2 M1a (30-1597-1) has suddenly starting acting quirky. In neutral, there are chuffs at a somewhat uneven rate. The engine is able to move forward and sometimes in reverse, but often will lock up after coming to a stop. The smoke unit appears to be unconnected the chuffs when in idle. I can still change direction from a sound and lights standpoint, but the engine won't move. This happens even after a few laps around the layout. The cycle seems to interrupt itself.

I've tried both types of resets as well as swapped out the tender drawbar. No results...
Could the board have gone bad? Visually, nothing seems wrong. It's been running fine for the three years I've had it.

I've attached a video (Excuse the clutter on workbench... I'm somehow able to make sense of it)

I could not tell if the motor was spinning and just the flywheel stuck during some of that video. The flywheel is attached to the motor and locked with a setscrew down in that visible hole in the side of the flywheel.

If the motor is spinning both directions and just the flywheel slipping then tighten and fix the flywheel. I saw a heck of a lot of wobble when it did spin in the video. The motor shaft should have a flat spot and that hole and setscrew should line up and be locked to that flat.

If the motor is not spinning, it could be the boiler board might damaged and one of the motor drive FETs failed or some other problem (relay contact damaged).

I'm again, thinking from the video this is mechanical (flywheel loose on the motor shaft), but do not have hands on the engine to validate.
