All this talk about Radio Shack got me thinking. I've never seen an O scale Radio Shack on a layout. Anyone have one? Pictures please if you do.

Great idea! They were stand-alone buildings in the '60s. I have the TV shop I made from left-overs after I bashed the WB IGa grocery. When I get the new area of the layout done, I think I will make it a Radio Shack.
Two iconic companies of my youth: Sears and Radio Shack, are going under, and while I have no respect for what they are today (lousy stores) and who runs them (very poor businessmen) , they were important to me and others way back when. I need to put both on my layout.
Anyway remember Sterling Electronics?:: we bought nearly as much from them, maybe more.
A few years ago, they sold a little tin bank that was filled with batteries and shaped like a building. One found its way onto my modules during the Christmas season when everything is tin on them:

I would like to see your Sears store. I worked for Sears from 1973 to 1993.
I just realized, on my layout, this uninspired storefront could be a "mom & pop" Sears (now known as "Hometown" Sears).

That's a great idea, Spence. I think most of us have spent a fair amount of time in a Radio Shack over the years and it just won't seem the same without them.

Lee, Art: I wish I had the capabilities to build one but that's beyond my expertise.
Timely suggestion Spence..
It seems that many Radio Shacks exist(ed) in strip malls or shopping centers, something I can't remember ever seeing modeled. The idea opens interesting possibilities - a single long building containing a large variety of businesses, each with its own signage and glass storefront. Any done that and have pics?
I think it is a great idea. Even the Strip Mall concept could make a very interesting vignette.
I don't think that I have ever seen one done before, it would make a great space fuller for those with a lot of unused real estate on their platform.
Here's a few examples...
Jon - We were waiting for you to shine some light on the topic. A picture is still worth a thousand words.

This sure looks like a plasticville structure.
Not Radio Shack, but it's fun...
