Funny that you mention that Paul.
The route we took to Far Rockaway and back was done by design: LIRR out to Far Rockaway to visit relatives who’ve been there since the 1970s, and then the A Train back into Brooklyn to visit the Transit Museum. Figured I would wow the wife by the water crossing (she, like most folks, never associated that scenery with being in New York).
Everything was okay until we reached finished the water crossing and arrived at Howard Beach only to find out that due to weekend construction (I didn’t read or pay attention to all of the posted signs, LOL) that the train was only operating as a shuttle service to/from Far Rockaway and that we had to take a bus bridge to the Euclid Avenue station to continue to Downtown Brooklyn, which exponentially increased the length of time of the trip. In other words, the wife, who’s note railfan, wasn’t amused.
I understand the use of bus bridges when necessary, but I’m not a big fan of bus bridges, as they are poor substitute from a train and requires everyone to have a three-seat ride instead of a one-seat ride, and the number of buses provided never matches the number of train passengers that had to disembark. Been on enough of bus bridges here in South Florida using Tri-Rail and it’s a mess every time.
I echo @Christopher2035 comment about NYC.
Thanks to all who have commented on my post.
Apologies for the multiple posts in short time.
Speaking of my disdain for bus bridges, it's time for another one.👎🏾
Tri-Rail train that I just boarded is now stationary and emptied all of its passengers due to an incident north of us. So now all of the hundreds of us commuters on that train plus those en route to the station for later trains now have to wait for an impromptu bus bridge to take us to a station north of us. Marshaling those buses to come here will take ages and now my commute home has increased by 60-90 minutes, if past history is any indication.
I LOVE BUS BRIDGES!!! 😡
But I digress to keep the topic of this thread on point.😀
Just a friendly reminder guys.....pictures in this thread should be of the prototype / real trains.
