Hoping someone can help with this problem.

I recently acquired this Rail King/MTH Doodlebug.  It runs fine with the exception that it will not operate in reverse.  It cycles through the E-Unit settings (fwd-neutral-rev) but will not move backwards when in reverse.  In the reverse setting, when increasing power, the Proto sounds indicate increasing motion and when decreasing power, I get the squealing brake sounds.  Absolutely no reverse motion or attempt to do so, though.

I have tried resetting the engine to factory specifications and also tried resetting the remote lock-out control feature.  Neither worked.  The manual makes note of a Reverse Unit Lock-Out Switch located on the under side but, there is merely an empty hole where the switch should be (see attached photo).  Directly opposite that switch location is another switch with arrows pointing front and rear.  There is no mention of this switch in the manual and moving the switch had no apparent effect on the engine's operation.

Finally, I have tried running it with two different transformers but, neither will get it moving in reverse.

Any suggestions or fixes would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you!

Tom

Thanks for the info Jon.  I found a Guy that does MTH repairs at a Local model train hobby club.  He was listed on MTH's site as an authorized repair technician.  Clubs seem to have reputable people so I'm hoping he's one of them.  I will mention the transistor thing to him when I see him on Monday at the club, if he's suggesting a new board.

Thanks Again!

Tom
