I just added this section of track and my Lionel Docksider 0-6-0 stalls on this crossing unless I increase voltage to 12 volts.
This locomotive runs the rest of my layout at 8-9 volts.

The crossing has a large plastic center section without any metal rail for 2.5” on the center rail and 3” on the outside rails. Disappointed with this design, and wondering if there is anything that can to be done

I had a similar problem with Scaletrax.  I tried to extend the length of the rails into the plastic.  But you have to be real careful or you could create a short.  The easiest fix would be to install either a double pickup roller or an additional pickup roller, which I did also.

What source did you use for the double pickup rollers?

Mine was MTH.  So I got it at a dealer that sold parts.  You could probably find Lionel equivalent at a dealer that sells parts.

Your ScaleTrax crossing looks like it has metal rails in the center, do you know if they are "powered"?

Yes, the center of my diamond is powered.  My problem was at the ends
