Recommendation Wanted for Wire Rope

Aircraft cable can be had in diameters as small as 1/32”.

I use a wire I got from the craft store to hang pictures for the county fair entry. It's braided and will permanently deform if you bend it tight but it otherwise is flexible. It looked like this but the diameter was small and it wasn't so expensive in 2012 haha McMaster also has super small braided wire rope but I can't speak for the flexibility of it.

I generally use picture hanging wire for something like that. Strong and seems to be about the correct size in O scale

Sewing thread for canvas or other heavy duty work can be had in pretty decent diameters and it’s cheap.

Thank you all for the suggestion.  It occurred to me last night that the stuff used on post-war crane cars - Lionel, MTH, K-Line - is pretty close to what I need.  It's large enough to have some visibility, but not really wire.  Does anyone know what that is called (or part no.) or where I might find it?

picture hanging wire is perfect!

I don't know what they used on post-war crane cars, but I have a TMCC version crane.  Like many, I wasn't careful and the string became tangled when I moved it.  After several hours of trying to get it back in place I noticed it was fraying.  After some research I bought the stuff in the picture and completely restrung it.  It was a pretty good match for color and flexibility, and I think it was a little stronger.  I got it from the big online retailer, but I'm sure others have it.  One disclaimer, the crane has been sent to a Lionel service center since it no longer responded to commands.  I have not actually used the new string since I put it on.

Fishing line - black, braided, flexible, doesn’t fray. Probably 80 - 100lb line, or thereabouts.

I have used Kevlar thread and it is strong and flexible.  I have used as small as 0.015”.

Stop the presses!  The Kevlar string recommended by @BamaTrainman is pretty awesome.  I just bought some from the big online retailer.  I wish I had known about this before I restrung my TMCC crane.

A little trip to JoAnn's Fabrics yielded a 20lb hemp cord from Hildie & Jo.  That's what I'm using and it seems to be OK.
