Ron, Passenger cars were completely disassembled and the doors and windows were re-painted in Hennings cream collector color.  The cars are lithographed so I touched the red up the best I could, rebuilt the trucks and reassembled.  I don't like to use the decals or stamps and usually (if I can ) attempt to save the lithographed sections by painting in sections.  Thanks for your inquiry

Dennis, When I do restorations, I try and keep the train as original as I can.  That said, there are always trade offs.  Almost always, I dont go through the trouble of re-riveting.  A purist wil tell you that if you paint a rivet, its not a good restoration. Well, I paint the outside rivets on the commodores so no one can ever sell the train down the road as unrestored.  I have a press and could replace them or mask them but I dont. Again, its a trade off.  As far as the rails, I clean them or use nickel stock and make my own.  On the commodore, I also use a resto cab as most always the cabs are in bad shape on the trains that I am able to find.  The MTH cab that you directed me to is really a nice casting.  Thanks for that, it made this resto alot better than what I was going to use.   By the way,  I have got the Tender finished on the Blue Streak - The loco is next and finally those pesky two tone cars.   I have my fingers crossed that I can pull this one off.  Lol
