Hi Dan, that is truly outstanding work. Thanks for sharing.

One question - On the tail car, are there supposed to be any kind of lights in the indentations on both sides?

I ask because the M10000 was one of my greatest finds in a gentlemens barn when I was living in NC. Bought the M10000 and a 260 with three beautiful Blue Comet Cars 710,710 and 712. Was there ever a 711 (other than on the corner down the street) ?

Paul, though most of my Pre War specialist friends have passed on I don't recall one.

Dan, a Fantastic job!

I would like to share with you my long update project of a 1934 M10000 which is drawing to completion. I finally finished the paint and decals and clear coated the pain and that finally made it pop. I had to use paint thinner to clean the body of the train cars and engine as it was giving me some not nice finishes. The paint is a hammered aluminum and with the clear coat it looks great and I am happy. I upgraded the motor to a Pullmor and that was a good change. I have interiors and people in the cars and sounds for the engine. All lighting is LED and I have designed a constant power board for all the lighting power controls. Now this is not your normal refurbishment it is a jump to the future. Enjoy and will post more later. Engine

Beautiful work Dan

Dan has installed TMCC command control and newer versions of Railsounds cards in various conventional locomotives I own. He does excellent work. He can work TMCC / Legacy and DCS. He recently upgraded an MTH locomotive for a friend. With the new speaker he installed one needs ear plugs...

I wanted to give you an update to the 1934 M10000 and here is the motor upgrade, I had flex in the way the motor had to be mounted so I made a new plate for the motor. I am a backyard machinist and have a friend that has been helping me with how to do the work and I have been able to do some interesting things with my mill and lathe. I started out with a Sureline and move up to a X2+ mini lathe and 812 lathe both Harbor Freight. Both have DRO's on them and the mill is being upgraded with computer control.
I had problems with flex on the motor mounting plate and so I decided to make a new one. The old motor would not pull the four cars that were in the train consort. So I put a Pullmor motor in it after resolving a gear issue here is the new upgrade.
The 1st picture is the set up,

2nd is the results of the machining,

3rd is the layout of the parts and

4th is the test fighting of the motor and plate to the truck.

Test fighting

The static test came out good now to trim it to fight the engine using a donor engine for the test fight. Do not want to mess up the paint on the engine, I have had enough of that. There is a bracket that is been made to hold the motor into the shell that is not shown. I will post that in the next installment.

You do absolutely beautiful work. A question about the paint: Earlier you you indicated the cars were sprayed with Lowes brushed nickel paint. Then, after paint problems, the final paint is hammered aluminum oversprayed with clear coat. Do I understand that correctly, you had to strip the original paint and repaint?

I had to clean all the cars with paint thinner and remove the paint down to the metal, There was  some kind of contaminate on the cars I should have done that before and will the next time. The paint was brushed nickel paint both times and it came out great. I did not strip the original paint I had cleaned it but what I did was not far enough. Lesson learned.
