I bought two lightly used 072 remote control switches. The previous owner had apparently cut the wires between the remote actuators and the switches but everything is in the boxes.

So... I installed the switches today and was looking forward to using my legacy 990 to control so I figured I did not have to reconnect the remotes? But I cannot figure how to make them work with my CAB unit. The indicator light on each switch is on so I know they have power. I read and followed ( I think?) the instructions in my legacy manual about assigning the switches but no luck. They just sit there.

So what am I missing? It has be something simple? Any assistance will be greatly appreciated!

Can we assume that your trains run okay using the CAB2?  I have no idea why the previous owned would have cut the wire since they detach easily with a screw driver.  Make sure that the jumper between AUX IN and TRACK JUMPER is in place.  After that just power up the track, press the small program button on the switch (1-2 seconds) until the switch lantern flashes.  Now press SW, any two digit number and press SET.  The lantern should be on.  To operate, press SW, enter the switch number and press either the straight arrow (AUX1) or the curved arrow (AUX2).

Thanks Dan. Yep, all four of my Legacy engines run fine with all features. I’ll check the wiring for the jumper you mentioned and try the Program button.

I must admit I did not read anything about that in my Legacy manual so it must be detailed in the Switch manual? Where exactly is the Program button on the switch? I sure don’t recall seeing one? I’m betting that that is the issue.

Thanks again.

Doesn’t look like they are command control. I wondered, but you said indicator light. So I assumed.

That’s why some here remind folks to mention part numbers when asking for help.

BTW, ERR has retrofit command upgrades for these remote only switches. Ask 3rd Rail (Sunset Models) for stocking. They’re advertised at the top of this Forum page.
