I am redoing RMT PRR Madison Baggage, Coach and Observation Cars Names and Numbers so I can redo them with the Kids, Grandkids Names and Birthdays and need some advise.

I found some PRR Floquil II Tuscan Red Paint and was thinking about painting over the existing and using either Laser Decals from Micromark or Dry Rub Transfers from Woodland Scenics. Unless I can find a way to remove the existing lettering I was just going to paint over it.

My concerns are if I use Dry Rub Transfer over the new paint there might be issues, plus there are rivets in the plastic and I am not sure how well the Dry Rub Transfers would work in that application. So I am leaning towards the Micromark laser decals.

Any ideas or suggestions would be deeply appreciated as I have 3-4 Baggage Cars (Kids) and 6 Coaches and 1 Observation  Cars for the (Grandkids) and want to get them done next weekend while I have the time off to get them ready for Christmas!

Thank you all in advance,

No need to paint over the letters. You will still see the outline of the names anyway. Call or E-mail Weaver and get their Scalecoat 2 "Wash  Away". It's made to take letters off. Work it with a clean small paint brush. Just a little at a time. If you work to much in you can damage the paint under the lettering. All the paints are different so take your time. I know MTH and K-line used some hard paint so you can work the letter off very fast. I just finished numbering my K-line Trainmasters so they have different numbers. The old numbers came right off. Hope this helps. Don

I have removed the paint from several RMT Beep shells using isopropyl alcohol, available at the local pharmacy.  The paint (ink?) and lettering were off in minutes.  Therefore, I recommend great caution in attempting to remove just the lettering without damaging the car color.

It would be a more efficient use of your time to strip the cars, paint (spray can or airbrush) then decal and clear coat.   Plus, they will have an almost professional appearance.

Thanks Don!

It was worth the wait to get the Scalecoat 2 Wash Away! It worked like a charm!, Got all 10 cars lettering removed and will work on making up the Decals and will work on them next week!
