I'm sure almost everyone has had this problem; a box that had a rip in it. Right now, I have two prewar set boxes that have a corner that split. I was wondering what everyone thinks the best way to repair this is? I'm not expecting to make the box like new, but only to keep it from getting worse.

There was an article in Classic Toy Trains magazine a couple of years ago dedicate to this very subject. I have it but it'll take a while to find it. You might be able to search for it on their website. I'll look for it as soon as I get the chance.

I'm reading that exact old issue right now, but don't have the equipment to scan etc. Don't know how to do it. I can send you the whole magazine if you'd like though.

I pieced a couple Marx boxes together, mainly because they were my Uncles.I took cardboard and glued/taped them from the inside.
Matt,
What issue is that?
Thanks,
It appeared in Trains magazine, Oct. 2005, page 48, written by Jack Willer.
I used 2" wide brown re-enforced packing tape. The kind you wet on the back and apply. Its about as close as your going to get to original as no one makes the cloth re-enforced tape.

I've never taped them, but I do glue sheets of thin cardboard to the back of the damaged areas, then clamp them overnight.
