Question:  Does anybody know the replacement part for Lionel's wicks or "batting"?  I've been on their website for 45 minutes and am having no luck.  I've searched for batting, wick, smoke wick and every other word I can think of.

I'm looking to buy some some extra wicks for my 2 Legacy Diesel engines.  SD60E and SD40-2.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Hello, I figured I would latch on to an old related post and ask if anyone knows where I can get some spare 691SMKP008 smoke unit batting (5 or so) without having to pay $10 to $15 shipping? Assume this is the latest lionel batting material?

Also, does anyone know if the ogauge MTH wicking material AA-0000001 (I have several) works in their smoking tank cars? Was thinking those may have HO scale smoke units in them but not sure. Just trying to stock up on some wicking material to have when needed. Not interested in the tiki torch material. Would rather stick with stock material.

Thanks,

Brad

Yes you can use the same wicking material in the smoking tank car, its just a much smaller smoke unit so it doesn't take as much.

Jim, thank you for the information. That's what I was thinking. I have some of the newer braided MTH wicks and some older (not so braided) ones as well.

If you unbraid the MTH wicks will they work as good batting material for the lionel smoke units?

Brad

Yes,  You can use either type of MTH wick in a Lionel.

Do make sure the air flow works.  I've seen smoke units so packed full of wicking no air can pass - doesn't work very well that way.
