I would like to suggest (or request) a forum where threads could all be made 'Sticky' (not able to be deleted). It would be for threads that contain information that would be of value to all forum members and frequently referred to. Examples would be the O Scale Freight car guides and the Natty Boh threads that recently came up missing. The threads being 'Sticky' would hopefully prevent this from happening in the future.

I realize it would probably require more work for the moderators, but hopefully it would be minimal and only a few threads from time to time would qualify for entry into the forum. Not sure what would qualify a thread for entry? Possibly number of views, length of thread or just an interesting subject that's known to be of interest to all or if it's a known popular thread? I also realize that having too many forums is bad and can be confusing, but this would be a special forum. Adding more 'Sticky's' to the existing forums might be ok, but that could easily use up the first page or two of entries and make it hard to get to the new posts. However, the moderators know much more about this than I do, so I defer to them on implementation.

Anyway, thanks for reading this and giving it your consideration. I will understand if it doesn't happen, but I do think there should be some way to protect some of the better and more informational threads here that folks refer to a lot.

If the original posters would use more descriptive topic headings, you can readily find relevant topics with the existing search features. And if folks would do a search on their topic instead of making a new post right away, you can build on an existing topic to help create a good archive of useful information.

The forum does not need any more "special features" that would create more work for moderators. Learn to use the existing "Advanced Search" feature, if you aren't already familiar with it.

Ace,

The threads I am referring to were deleted when a purge of anything with 'for sale' or 'sold' (or similar) in the thread was recently done to clean up the message base. It was an innocent attempt to clean out old messages that had some bad side effects. It has nothing to do with searching for information as the information has been deleted and won't be found no matter what you search for. I probably didn't explain it very well in my post, my typing seldom matches my thinking very well, Rich will know what it means.

I don't know if a new forum is the answer, it was just a thought, but I do think some way of protecting certain threads that some members have spent many hours putting together is needed so this doesn't happen again. These threads were also still being referred to and added to by many forum members, pretty active threads. Many members had a lot of time in some of this information. I thought adding more 'Sticky's' at the beginning might get too crowded and be sort of messy and counter productive. I know the moderators are busy enough already and I surely don't want to create extra work for them, that was not my intent. Hopefully something simple can be done and there is an easier solution and the moderators may have already done something?
