Tried running an Atlas O engine, cleaned rollers and wheels, engine would start up  but would barely move even at 40-50mph, boost did nothing either. I placed it in program, hit reset on DCS remote, got one horn blast. Placed back in Run, engine now starts up upon adding voltage to track, but do not get horn, bell or movement forward or backward. Am I overlooking something in trying to reprogram this?

Many thanks....

I've never run my TMCC with DCS!  Is this a unit with EOB or does it have TMCC?

From what I do know about TMCC, you need the set button to make changes stick. I'm not sure what you did or got with DCS?

Do you have the TMCC set up? Can you take it to someone who does?

Maybe you could search for a TMCC engine reset.

If the engine has EOB. The cruise feature is disabled running conventionally. In TMCC command there are 3 choices. Cruise off, 32 steps, 128 steps. The 128 shold make it perform similar to a DCS engine. Since you aren't the original owner. It may have been set at cruise off to run in a lash up. No way to tell other than resetting it. That could be the rapid acceleration your experiencing.

try. ENG, it's TMCC programmed ID ( the number you entered in the DCS remote ), DIR, AUX 1, AUX 1, AUX 1, you will hear a horn blast, then press 1 and you should hear another horn blast. This should put you in 128 step mode.

Originally DCS could only issue 32 TMCC speed steps. EOB had a workaround pressing the brake and boost buttons. A later DCS version gave the remote the capability of offering more steps enabling it to run both EOB and K-Line's cruise. I believe the setting on the DCS remote just sets up the remote. Not the engine.

Appreciate the replies and finally had a chance to work on engine again this evening.  The engine is an Atlas Vermont Railway RS-3, maybe 10+ years old?

When I added to track tonight and added power using Variable channel, it would start up upon power being added to track.  However, horn, bell and directional were non-responsive.  It would remain in place, however, engine would rev up.

I finally hit emergency stop on my DCS which shut it down.  Now, I am unable to add it using DCS or CAB-1, going through various steps to add in a new engine.  I have 8-10 other Lionel or Atlas engines that operate flawlessly so I’m not sure what is going on here.

I believe you don't really add any TMCC engine to DCS. You create an address that talks to the TMCC engine. So when you say you can't add it, either I'm wrong about what I'm saying, or...  you mean edit the address? or add the slot to the DCS remote?

Now about the cab 1, you just assign an address to the engine's board. You can't add anything to the cab 1.

So we are just talking language here right? You have other engines so you must know about them already.

So you have an engine that is bricked and won't let you assign a TMCC address to it. You obviously know to put the engine on powered track and set the switch to program. How's the batteries in the Cab 1? Does the light on the TMCC base blink when you push anything? Can you edit another TMCC engine with your set-up?

Have you reset this engine with your Cab 1 yet?

I think you need to post this in the TMCC column, or get the Lionel techs to see this here and respond.
