Finally have taken time to work on my postwar Lionel Alco locomotive I got last year. I have decided to do something with it than have it sit on a shelf unused. The shell needs some work since part of the front was broken. Might just replace the shell not too sure yet. The motor needs some work but is ok. As for the frame I will strip it and repaint it. Just have to replace the missing rear coupler.

Before picking up a new shell, you might want to look at Train Tender, part 204-RP.
Jeff has these to use as replacements for broken chin straps. I have used them on two engines so far and been quite happy.

ill look into them thanks
Jeff is a good guy.
If I was considering a Postwar ALCO to be a collector's item, I'd require an undamaged pilot apron. As a runner, I wouldn't be concerned, as long as the edges of the apron were neat.
Modern era Lionel eliminated the piece that went across the bottom of the opening somewhere along the line. Not certain when.

The very first MPC ALCos still had them. The SF & CN units. I think it was around 72 when the change was made
