I am thinking of the early O gauge 820 searchlight car with the brass lights. There is one I am thinking of bidding on but it the lights are pretty worn.
So this could apply to any pre-war brass. Is this brass plate? It looks like it from the photos. In that case is there anyway to restore some of the original luster? Some chemical process to plate that can be done at home?
This reminds me that there used to be a hobby of "bronzing" objects like baby shoes. My dad did this and I still have his jars of very fine metallic pigments. I am not even sure of the name of this process to look it up, or if something like this would work.
Anyway, anyone who has any experience with brass restoration?
