I need a reverse unit for my standard gauge CMC Mogul. The motor is a Pittman can motor 12vdc dated 7/25/73. Any suggestions? Any idea how many amps it pulls? I don't have a way to test. The motor does run nice and smooth.

I am thinking this would work best:

It shows it handles 12 amps. I am not sure of any of the other units.
Thanks Jeff. It came with an old Lionel unit that worked when I tested the first time. After taking apart the entire engine, cleaning, and putting all back together, it won't work. Murphy's Law!
I’ll agree with Jeff on the Dallee unit. I have some CMC that take almost no current and others that are power hogs. Be sure to oil both ends of the motor shaft. I generally prefer to just use a bridge rectifier. Cost $5.00. Don’t need no stinking reverse.

Thanks Steve. I was thinking about a rectifier for now. Since there is one in my tool box, that will be the answer for now.
After seeing the Bicentennial Special you built, I watched for one. This one looks like it sat on a shelf for a long time. Glued on dirt!

The blue on those tend to be a bit on the satin side so they will hold dust pretty well.

It cleaned up well. I left the brass with the patina. It has a few scratches on it but it is still a beautiful engine.

That’s what I do when building a locomotive......I’ll run it on a cheap rectifier to shake the bugs loose and find any other mechanical issues that may need to be addressed before putting expensive electronics in it....this way I know I’m good to go........Pat
