Reworking the Lionel #6-19113 Diamond Shamrock Two Dome Tank Car

This Lionel model is a very basic O-27 two dome tankcar with stamped metal underframe and plastic trucks.

The car has been reworked to provide a new underframe including brakegear, end brakewheel and sprung metal trucks and couplers. Since I operate mostly scale sized cars this will be used with a small diesel switcher and other O-27 size cars on a switching layout.

The frame has been extended and the car length is now about 36 scale feet.

1. The new frame, is it wood?
2. What are you using as a reference guide when figuring out the new trucks?

The frame is wood.

The underframe detail is freelance but similar to a K-Line caboose with metal underframe. Notice the brake gear attached to the underframe.

The added weight of the frame and metal trucks provides for better tracking.
