Hello,
Does anyone know if there is a list or chart that shows what rivets were used for attaching trucks to american flyer cars. There are many variations.

Contact Doug Peck at Portline Hobbies. He also sells a very nice book that lists all A/F engines with exploded view drawings and part numbers.

Hello,
This may not be something you desire to do but, I have, on tenders and cars that have electrical pick up, drilled and tapped the existing rivets for a short 2-56 screw. On cars such as the floodlight car you keep the appearance with the original rivet on top and only see the mod if you turn the cars over.
I have also used these small 2-56 screws to reattach the side frames on the Gilbert diecast trucks, I like it better than trying to cement them in place.

Mark,
I will get you a couple pictures but be patient, to get a good view of these I'll have to dissemble the cars they are installed on.

Myflertrains.net has repair manuals that might help you. Check the repair manuals section for Misc. Stuff. Above link may or may not work.

Mark,
A couple of pics, one of the side frames was loose, the other was completely separated from the truck, when a little black paint is added the screw head disappears. I did mis-speak in my prior post I actually used a 4-40 screw to repair the rivet attaching the truck to the chassis. Using a flat head screw would make these even less visible.

Very nice... thanks!
