Just got emails from Walter at RMT that the new Light Towers, Statue of Liberty and Super Snap Track arrive next week.

Towers look really nice especially the painting in actual railroad colors.

Statue of Liberty in now lighted by track or battery power.

The Super Snap Track looks to be like the former K-Line track but, as usual for RMT, Walter has probably upgraded the track too.

Photos are on the RMT website along with 50% off prices.

Hi Dave,

The Super Snap track matches up with O gauge tubular track. You would have to use a shim and some 027-O guage mating pins to connect them. It would probably help to cut off the plastic snap tabs that connect the Super Snap pieces. I use and like the Super Snap track. On most of the sections I use O gauge pins for better conductivity and have removed the snap connectors, especially where it is connected to regular O gauge track. Remember to remove the little metal connectors that conduct electricity from one section to another if you are creating blocks.

You're right, I found it on the legacy K-Line site. It is a rerelease at 5 times the price, at least it is on sale at 50% off list, still high. I wonder since they are always on sale if the new prices are really their new asking price. I wonder what the dealers will sell them for? (I mean all RMT products in general)

In 1982 for 9.95 it was a Kline Statue of Liberty 12-piece kit without a base or lights.

In 2004 for $34.95 it was a built-up Kline Statue of Liberty with base and light.

In 2012 RMT has 'cleaned up' the tooling for a more detailed Statue of Liberty with lighted crown and torch. The Statue will now light from track power or AA battery power. The resin base has been recast and given more detail also.

The $179.95 is MSRP/suggested retail price. Current Factory Direct 50% SALE pricing is $79.98.

Subscribers to RMT email list received an offer that brings total price including shipping down further.

In addition, RMT will now only accept orders for items that are in stock or arriving within 30 days. This policy will apply to all RMT items. Waiting months and months for your orders are over at RMT.

Thanks.

Then you should post a picture of the 'cleaned up' statue on your website.

I wonder how best to use the Bethlehem Yard tower with it's two lights up top and the tower with the red light.

The Union Pacific down at Jenks Shops just aim a battery of yard lights straight down the yard tracks in the middle.

Should I try and have the tower pointing towards the structure where the rail cars will be going in to unload hot metal? Or is there a better consideration?

I am beginning to like RMT very much.

Please stop whining about the prices and give Walter a break. He is bringing lots of new/ remake of old stuff for us O gaugers and even some of us hirailers. As somebody stated it is either you buy it or you don't.  So you go Walter and keep bringing us the stuff we want and let all the naysayers pontificate.

honestly i think most stuff is way over priced.  how does a box car cost $50+ imported from china.   i would have no problem paying more for usa made products.  But in the end you pay the cost because its what you want.

i have 2011 mustang GT.  the parts are 3 times as much as they were for my 2003 GT.

i think everything is over priced  and made cheaper.

If he keeps bringing it to the forum then I think a discussion of all facets of the product is fair game.

I have to agree, the $179.95 price is absurd when at some point in time - everything is 50% off. Yes, it's all well and good to say "Half Off Sale", however like the boy who cried wolf, after a while it's the price, except for the occasional unsuspecting rube who doesn't know any better and gets fleeced for full retail.

When the 50% sales went into effect, I wonder how dealers felt about it?

Some decided not to carry the line.  The consumer could get for less than the distributor was selling it to a dealer.  Now the distributor price is marked down.  Makes you wonder what a distributor is doing too.

Now prices are lower on some items than they were at wholesale cost.

This seems set up for direct sale internet sale.  G

I think they have broken their brand, you don't see them in stores, what dealer is going to compete with the factory price 50% less than he can sell it for. Maybe they just want to market direct from now on. Too bad because they would make a good starter train, but without local exposure they will just become novelty trains for those like us who know where to find them.

That's kinda funny when you consider that the actual Statue of Liberty was a foreign import.  Granted it wasn't from China, but still...

But then, Central Pacific built the original Donner Pass using Chinese labor...
