Jdevleerjr...RMT GG1 is seme-scale, otherwise can be called postwar size. However, I feel that the RMT version is more detailed,  better painting etc. and RMT customers tend to agree also.

This is one tough crowd.  The guy is a forum sponsor and selling die-cast GG-1s for a song, and people are piling on?  Wow

Whatever one may think about the suggested MSRP (and he's hardly the only dealer or manufacturer around these parts with a marketing strategy some object to), let's cut him -- and all our fellow forumites -- a little slack.  Peace

Jim:

To your question about the size/specs....

At York RMT had some on display, out of the box.  They are all die cast and have nice detail.  They are semi scale, but probably the same length as the ones that MTH (rail King) and WBB make.  I believe they have more detail that WBB and MTH's current products because of different and perhaps newer tooling/molds.  They are a very solid looking piece.  I was very pleased with what I saw in my hand.  Nice product and at this price, a nice buy too.

Walt:

Thanks for making these available at this price.     It is just like

So, if my calculus is correct, you/RMT spend money to help pay for this site so we can come here, for free, and talk trains and occasionally be offered specials and great deals from RMT on new trains because we, as members, are exclusively informed of these specials through this forum/web site that is in part paid for and supported by you and your colleagues in the model/hobby train business.  Thank you for sponsoring the forum.

Back on topic....  These are very nice locomotives.  In hand they appear as if they will run like a top - nice and smooth and will pull a ton of cars.  At this price I personally will consider buying one.

( and for the record, I have no connection to Walt/RMT; I just appreciate the sponsorship he provides - 'casue I like not having to pay to use this web site!!    )

Great point John.

Two other thoughts:  I think any sentient being realizes MSRP is a marketing tool.  It is no different here and I don't fault RMT from doing what every major manufacturer and reseller does, in this business and others.

Second, it is very unseemly when a dealer takes a shot at a manufacturer, as has been done above.  I understand the underlying frustration - just don't carry the product then - but it is baby stuff.  Makes me want to avoid doing business with that dealer because it is just not classy.

I beleive these models are based on the old K-Line models. They are comparable to Lionel PW GG's.

I had two of the K-Line models. They were excellent runners and the doors are complete as opposed to the chopped off versions on Lionel and MTH models.

if you're looking for a traditional GG1 and are not looking for sound or comand control, this is the one to get. Betten than WBB IMHO.

Walter, It may have been the last York in April, or perhaps October, but I recall the RMT display was a bit sparse and lacking. I say that not to be critical, but to point out that there are those of us who are not familiar with your product (the way we are with Lionel, MTH, and Williams) and would be more inclined to jump at a nice postwar GG1 remake at that price if we knew the product more. Perhaps this October bring out more of your line to show at York. I think it would be good for RMT and good for the O gauge hobbyists. Just a suggestion / thought.  Take care.

I suspect that there are underlying issues between previous RMT Dealers and RMT's decision to sell direct and undercut their dealer base.
