Here's a first sample of the RMT true scale 40' boxcar. The level of detail is excellent and it's a true scale car exactly the same dimensions of the scale Lionel cars and the MTH Premier cars. The separately applied details are many with realistic roof walks, ladders, wheels, and even the stirrups. I should have gotten a shot of the interior as there are two bulkheads of crates that are on either side of the door opening that are pad printed shipping crates. The trucks are the new RMT freight trucks that have needlepoint axles and Delrin bearings. Here's the RMT 40' PS/1 Style Boxcar Page with further details, can't wait for this one to arrive!

Thanks for the details, I just pre ordered one of these from Pat's Trains!
Major league dumb question, does Walter Matuch (spelling?) still own RMT?
Unrelated edit: the retail price is $34.95, according to this web page:

Interesting.

Gee, I hope so. I'd hate to think you're spending all that time on these products strictly for fun!
They look nice from what I can tell from the photo. I’d prefer prototypical paint schemes on a true scale car like this, so I probably won’t be a customer until that happens. However, I’m sure the fantasy paint schemes will sell well, especially at that very reasonable price.
The new roller-bearing trucks appear to be a nice upgrade. I hope RMT eventually develops new friction-bearing trucks for older freight cars like the PS-1.
CNJ #1601...RMT will be offering more boxcars and many with prototypically inspired paint schemes.
Roller Bearing trucks were introduced by Timken in 1929 so they can be prototypical on a PS-1.
Here is a very prototypical boxcar...never produced - until now by RMT - LV Flour Service car. Pre-order now from your favorite hobby store train dealer.

Very interesting combination of features. I look forward to getting the LV.
Add me to the camp that wants true prototypical paints designs. Ones that haven't been done before too.

So just what "prototype" are these based on then?
Just curious @gunrunnerjohn, how is the weight on the new boxcars? Do they seem underweight at all?
Mike
mwb and others... LV Flour Service car can be referenced to an Ed Van Leer photo taken at Sayre, PA on June 6, 1963 in a Morning Sun collection publication.
. OGR TOS rules do not allow the actual photo to be posted.

But you could put the link to that photo here....surprising to see what appears to be a K brake under that car, but possible, I guess

They are right on target, 15oz. That's the recommended computed NMRA weight for an O-scale 10" car. That combined with the very low rolling resistance, and they promise to be well behaved cars.

Walter- are additional road names in the works....LIRR, PRR, D&H, NYC, NH, BAR......a remake of the famous BAR State of Maine cars would be a winner!

Any chance of a photo of the underside with the trucks (one, at least) swiveled as far as it can be? I would like to see how hard it will be to two-rail and add KD couplers.
Maybe future production can include a mounting pad, just a suggestion for the scale cars.

I looked at the bottom of the RMT car and a Lionel car specifically thinking about 2-railing it. The only thing you have to do to mount the Kadee couplers is drill the mounting holes, the deck is exactly the same height off the track. The Lionel car has four pre-drilled holes, I believe they also supply the mounting pad with the car. I'm sure the mounting pad can be simply made, or perhaps a trick for a 3D printer.
A Milwaukee Road 40' box car with the yellow horizontal stripe is one scheme I never got to buy. Perhaps a real Milwaukee Road yellow stripe 40' box car still exists for you to photograph for reference.

I do wish someone would do a submarine boxcar. The ones I’ve seen have all been surface ships.

Gato class?
"That would be ok, but would prefer a nuc."
+1
Real estate=location, location, location
Rolling stock (for me)=roadname, roadname,roadname
And l don't buy the most popular roadnames, which means will not be made, but.... surprises are welcome, if the provider can make a few shillings ..
The website pullman-museum.org has photos of MNS Minneapolis, Northfield & Southern PS-1 40' box cars that have not been produced in O scale.

I think that it has already been done.

Would the submarine images be digital photos or digital paintings?
Walter is there a number yet for the US Navy BB-62 boxcar? I tried to look it up in Train World; but couldn’t find it.
Just curious if RMT is using injection molding or 3D printing? I concur the comment of more not so well known rail lines in places other than the northeast. CofG, ACL, SAL, FEC, Southern, all those rail lines below the Mason Dixon most manf. ignore. But I did just request a preorder for a 36' Woodside reefer for Jax Beer.
CALNNC...RMT o-gauge true scale box cars use injection molding with many separately applied parts...brakewheel, ladders, underbody piping details, sliding/opening doors, air hoses, roofwalks, end steps, grab rails etc. Features you would not expect to see on a car selling for only $34.95 MSRP.

Keep your eyes on RMT for many obscure, not normally offered and those below the Mason-Dixon line. (Doing SAL/Robert E Lee, WM-fireball, WEST VA woodchips, FEC, GM&O, SOU, L&N cars). Have you looked at the RMT website recently?
Thanks.
