Saturday my wife and I were at the Denver TCA show and it was great as usual.  I saw the Stoddart's wall art display for the first time and it was great.  I may get some of their railroad heralds and drumheads.  I'm looking forward to their 611 side view.  They plan to have it done this summer.  They said the next one of those will be the Dreyfuss Hudson!

My two purchases were a complete set of Trains magazines from 1943 and the other was a mint set of the Lionel Lackawanna 4 car MU set.  I road these a lot to Hoboken when I was growing up in New Jersey.  It's a great show with many dealers and is a great compromise if you can't get to York often.

I'm glad that you had a good time. I just got home from the show myself. New this year were  manufacturers Bachman Williams plus LGB Marklin. New TV ads seemed effective as we hit 9600 visitors for the first time.

Thanks to those that attended, those that donated door prizes and especially those that worked so hard to make the show such a huge success.

RMD TCA president

Kent,

We got back to California last night after what was the most outstanding train show I have attended in years. The men and women of the RMD should be commended for all of their hard work that resulted in a top notch event. I will say that I was concerned about driving over a thousand miles (2250 round trip) in the dead of winter (the snow storms east and west bound in the pass were kind or fun) to a show that I have never been to before, but now I'm a believer!

The positives:

  • Move in and out: The dock is large with plenty of room, Lots of helper to get cars in and out, Plenty of carts for people to use for unloading, leaves more room in the truck for trains.
  • Well laid out hall, with good lighting.
  • Lots of friendly workers that were great to deal with.
  • A very simple tax form for the sales tax.
  • Layouts everywhere! I quit counting a twenty-three!
  • Lots of things for kids to see and do.
  • Clinics and the Boy Scout Merit Badge are a great draw.
  • Advertising everywhere! Billboards, Radio, TV created a huge public draw.
  • Want to take pictures, no problem! I will post later.
  • Lots and lots of goodies to buy!

I have been involved with shows and conventions for many years and I have to say RMD has the right formula for a successful event. Admission prices are spot on. Letting members in at 9am if they are not vendors gives them the first shot at the tables (gives them a benefit of membership) for an hour. Public in at 10am to 5 and the rush starts and goes almost non-stop for two days. I have to venture a guess that with all of the shows / meets I have attended over the last couple of years (WGH excepted) this show had better attendance for one day than the others had for two days. NOTE!!!! I am not putting down other shows, clubs, members, green eyed monsters, or anyone else! I will continue to do all the ones I normally do each year. What I am saying is that RMD seems to have the right formula to get sellers, layouts, and people together to participate in this great hobby. I mean let's face it, if we do not encourage and go after more public participation, this hobby will go the way of the dodo.

In closing, Kent, John and all the rest, Thanks for a great job and a fun time in Denver!

Regards,

Randall

PS Negatives - NONE (except watch out for the CHP)

Randall thanks for the kind words. We have been steadily growing the show for 4 or 5 years at the Denver Merchandise Mart. Prior to that it was held east of town and was limited in size by the location and by the building. The goal is a regional show open to everyone and to all scales. We are lacking in O gauge 3 rail layouts so if any clubs are interested we would love to help you to attend.

Next  big show is November 30 - December 1st at the Denver Merchandise Mart. Email John G (Xferyard) for registration info or check www.rmtts.com

We also have a smaller show in and around the exhibits of the Forney Museum July 27-28. Info at www.rmtts.com

All door proceeds go to support the Forney Museum. This show is fun in that train sales tables are located all around Bigboy 4005 which should have the cab open for visitors. There are also 4 or 5 layouts of all scales.

Thanks Randall!

Planning is already underway for November and next March. Pre-Registration for November (available to vendors who attended this past show) will start May 1st with Regular Registration starting July 1st.

Please remember that you must be a member of TCA to sell at the show.

It will be several months before Hotel rates are available.

We will begin updating the website soon.

A few photos Sunday afternoon after the crowds thinned out.

Electronic Billboard on Interstate 25 on the way to and from downtown Denver. There were 50 other standard billboards as well.

Stoddart's of Georgia came to visit and were glad that they did.

Ron Gibson representing LGB & Marklin was there and is planning on attending the November and March shows next year.

Williams/ Bachman was there too. They will be back in March 2014.

I didn't have a lot of time to take photos this year. Anyone else have photos?
