As part of my quest to locate O scale decals for certain milk tank cars, I have been in touch with Microscale Decals about a custom run. Here are the details of how the decals would be used:

Cars:

General American Refrigerator Corp (G.A.R.E.) 53' wood cars.

General American Pfaudler Corp (G.P.E.X.) 40' & 50' wood cars and 40' & 50' steel cars

Models:

Atlas GACC 53' reefer.

Rails Unlimited 53' express reefer or milk car

PSC or Overland 40' & 50' steel milk car

Since both the General American express reefer and milk tank cars share the same basic body, the reefer hatches can be removed from the car to replicate a milk tank car. There are minor differences in the end buffer plates.

The dairies/creameries represented on the decal set are:

CONSUMERS DAIRY, UNITED FARMERS OF NEW ENGLAND, WHITE HOUSE MILK CO, EMBASSY DAIRY, H.P. HOOD INC, DAIRYMAN'S LEAGUE, WHITE BROTHERS, SHEFFIELD FARMS CORP, HEGEMAN FARMS CORP, MARS INCORPORATED, WHITING MILK COMPANY.

Keep in mind this set is for later non-billboard style paint schemes. circa 1940-1960.

This proposed custom run is an elargement of the Microscale set # 87-1030, which can be viewed on their website. The set will decal both refrigerator and milk tank cars.

To do the set there is a 125 piece run. The set will have two sheets. If you are interested in buying these sets for your own use, please email me at: cherryvalleyrr(at)verizon(dot)net

Once I know if there is close to enough interest to complete the run, I can ask Microscale for a firm set price.

Thanks for your interest.

Just my 2 cents here Chris, but if you need custom decal work done Microscale is not the place to go. While they have great print equipment, their design fees and minimum order make it unrealistic to use them. It is best to go with one of the smaller shops out there. I have used Highball Graphics for several years as they are nimble operation and they print on Microscale paper using ALPS printers. They can print me one set or 20 sheets of decals and they do all of the artwork too. Because of the quality and quick turnaround, I use them now exclusively in my custom car business.

There are other small shops out there like Highball and I am sure others could chime in on their experiences....

Don,

thanks for the input. I have used Highball before for some custom work and they have been quite helpful. You are correct about Microscale's minimum being high. They were the only ones with the correct artwork.

I have and am still looking into other options, 'cause its apparent there is not much interest in this decal here.
