Between 1975 and 1989 Ron Fox introduced a line of tinplate O gauge items in Australia.

They were mainly collected by retiree’s who were making up for the lost years of their youth brought on by the world wars and Great Depression.

Ironically many purchased Fox rolling stock so they could leave their valuable/rare  Hornby O gauge items on the display shelves. ( The tables have now turned and Fox items are fetching higher prices then the items they were a substitute for.)

Ron Fox during the time he was manufacturing tinplate machined his own press tooling and for several years had his own factory and Shop front in Buddina Queensland.

Saddly just as demand for O gauge tinplate collapsed in the 1960’s so to would the demand for Ron’s tinplate seemingly overnight in 1989 as Australia crept towards recession and inflation wiped out many retirees savings.

Ron never one to be idle moved on to other projects including introducing a line of fine scale polyurethane and brass NSWGR model kits.

With the help of Ron Fox and the HRCAA,  I have compiled and published a hard cover 20 page collectors guide that covers the tinplate items Ron manufactured. It’s intention is to raise awareness of this often overlooked chapter in Australian O gauge.

It will soon be available and If you are interested you are welcome to drop me a line via the email in my profile and I can send you more details.

Here is a prototype Ron made to see if there would be enough interest among club members to introduce a range of tinplate rolling stock.

It was originally left in bare metal and has only recently painted  by Ron as he had always intended to paint it.

It’s best described as Hornby compatible but heavily influenced by Australian O gauge such as Ferris \ Scorpion. Ron Fox tinplate rolling stock are very good runners with there machined metal wheels.

VR style Water Gin made from Robilt open wagon. Ron made this for me in 2018 on request. He had made several others in the mid 90’s

Next is the prototype lumber wagon that Ron made to gauge interest at HRCAA meetings in the early 1980’s. It’s missing the gold plated chains which I hope to replace soon.
