Looks like a great piece. Anyone have one? Did you need the Z1000 and the relay wired in to keep the engines from stalling on it?

A long time ago I had one made by Frank Curtis. As I remember it either stalled or shorted,I cant remember which, so a relay (activated by the insulated rail method) was necessary. A twin coil latch relay could also be used I think.
From the picture it looks like the center roller will run over the ground rail. I think a DPDT relay would work.

We had one on the layout for a while. A relay is a good idea because you can use it to energize the rails in the center of the diamond and the "running rails" in the diamond that the rollers cross for center rail polarity to compensate for odd pickup-roller spacing. The frogs are Delrin, so energizing the running rails on the crossing won't create a short. I think Ross has a wiring recommendation up on their web site.
We have one on the club layout, nothing but trouble. Many cars try to pick the points and many engines tend to stop midway through if going slow. If neither track is heavly trafficked use a double slip switch, works better. If either track is main line use a single cross-over and a regular switch, you will have less trouble.
