My experience with RR Track updates has been similar to other posters. The owner has been very cooperative and easy to deal with regarding updates without a lot of red tape. Once you purchase your first version of RR Track you are well taken care of and you will not regret your investment in this product.
I have a new Windows 10 computer and tried installing from my v5 upgrade disc. Result; no go, because it couldn't find a v4 install on my computer. Maybe, that's not how the upgrade works today, but that is how it used to work. I have contacted R&S.
Thanks for the info Keith. Plus I have to search for my older rrt4 disc and I'm thinking of a new desktop too.
Oman, please let us know of your findings from R&S. Thanks.

I will. I really doubt that v4 would install on Windows 10. I have my v4 disc.
When I click on my desktop PC with newly installed windiws10 rrt4 desktop icon it asks for my serial # , then the program will not open even after repeated attempts. Even by putting the serial # as prompted, many times.. No go.
The same computer months back with Windows 7 professional had no issues at all with rr track 4.
Thanks. I am sure others will be able to use the info you get as well.
I think others have said they tried (like Seacoast above) and it did not work for them, but might be worth a try while you are waiting for a reply from RRT?
By chance, do you have to enter "Company Info" as well as your Serial Number when installing V5?
I just installed 4.02 on a XP machine and it wouldn't install unless I entered my 12 digit "AC" number in the "company" field. This info was on the CD Case and on a sticker on the CD itself
Russ responded to me and told me to install v4 first. I did and much to my surprise v4 installed on my Windows 10 machine. Then I installed v5. I get a lot of errors about my old track plans, but I think it may be due to the layout folder being somewhere other than where RR Track expects it to be. I had located them in My Documents (for backup to a network HD). Anyway, I deleted all the old track plans and expect that the error messages will end once I have created 1/2 dozen or so new plans. By then, the the program will probably stop looking for those old files.
For company name, I just entered "none". I did not have to enter my AC number.

Ok I currently have Volume 4 on my windows 10 PC. Can I delete Vol 4 then reinstall it and it should work?
Keith,
If you already know all this, please just ignore.
In the Options menu (Options/Options), there is a Miscellaneous setting to "open last layout at startup". If the layout was moved to a different folder since the last time it was opened, RRT will give you an error because it can't find it. The same thing will happen if you try to open a layout in the Recent list at the bottom of the File menu if it was moved. However, if you select "Open layout" and find the new location, they should open without the error. I have layouts saved in several different folders and they all open fine. I don't recall having any problems opening v4 files back when I first installed v5, those are all long gone though.
When you installed v5 from your disk, did you then update to the test version?

Thanks Dave
I did not know about the option. I don't know how to get rid of these errors on old layouts that I removed. I have created one new layout and it is the only one listed when I open the program. I was able to open the old layouts in the manner that you suggested, but still got an error message, so I removed them.

(edit) I went back and reread the post. I would try uninstalling v4 and then reinstalling it.
As far as company name goes, I think the program is happy as long as you put something in there; just don't leave it empty.

Now I'm curious. If you still have one, post it or email it to me and I'll see if I get errors too. If not, oh well, it'll remain a mystery.
it seems that you must install version 4.01 before you install version 5 upgrade. It worked on my Windows 10 machine.
Oman,
Interesting, thanks for posting your findings and glad you got things going with the new version. You got a pretty quick response from R&S as well.

I deleted all of them, so I have nothing to send.
Keith, that's okay, I was just curious. Hopefully no more problems with new files.
