I sometimes buy TMCC locos with railsounds 5. I just bought a  0-8-0 , Boston & Albany and am very pleased. The whistle on it is outstanding, I guess the classic one you would hear in a movie.

I have the 11105 mohawk and the Lackawanna Trainmaster,(yeah Hot Water, I know it is Train master), both also outstanding.

what other engines of that rs5 time period are worth looking for?

Fred

My Hiawatha Atlantic has RS5 and the sound is excellent. It has a horn instead of a whistle, which caused a lot of complaints when it came out but in fact the Hiawatha was equipped with an air horn that was used at high speed in preference to the whistle. Unfortunately, the horn is a dual chime and the prototype used a single chime Leslie Tyfon, but if you can get past that and the overly-bright paint job, the sound quality is very high.

Lionel Union Pacific H-7 JLC version

I have a Santa Fe U28C That came in a set several years ago. It is a blue and yellow loco and the sounds are as sharp as the looks of this loco. Since it doesn't have Legacy, I was able to buy it reasonably from a set breakup, I should have bought the whole set, as the cars were as nice as the loco. But the horn, prime mover and ancillary sounds are great.

Yup. U28CG, to be exact. I have that engine as well (two, in fact, to run together), and it's a very nice engine. Great lighting, too.
