runaway engine on startup

I think you may have your var channel set to fixed mode, Try this one Menu/system/ DCS set up/ select the var channel and hit" fixed" I know this doesn't sound quite right but the FXD key is like a toggle switch. Each time you press it the channel changes from fixed mode to var mode. The remote should tell you what mode you've selected. Select the var mode.

Are you sure you have the track connected to one of the variable outputs?

  Sounds like you are set up incorrectly, go back and read Barry's book and reconnect your layout correctly.  If you do not own a DCS O Gauge Companion purchase one and the OGR DCS Video Guide also.  Setting up your layout is critical for proper DCS running.

It sure sound like you have a channel set wrong, and are getting near full voltage on start up. Check the settings the guys say above.

 

I find it interesting that all "conventional" start in forward. I can understand PW conv sometimes, but with an E unit, not all the time.

 

And I thought MTH conv (how about the other brands guys?) powered up in neutral, not forward....unless locked into forward.

 

Anyone else find that a conflict, or just me?

Lionel engines start in forward in convention mode. There is a one time  exception though, after running in command mode a lionel engine will power up in neutral just once, after that they always power up in forward.

 

I believe his Var mode is set to fixed instead of var. Using the TR button  with a var channel in fixed mode would duplicate his problem..

I don't run my TMCC/Legacy stuff in conventional mode, but I did a test and noticed what Gregg just mentioned.  I erroneously thought they always started up in neutral because of that.  Time to go back and do another test.

   Your Legacy engines also start up in FWD with your hand held remote,

the difference is with the remote you must increase the voltage (turn the red knob)

to make the engine move, I learned this on Patrick H's layout the night were tested his new ZW-L.  I always though all Lionel engines started up in Neutral, but they changed that engineering.

I realize they start up in command in forward.   I truthfully never gave the conventional operation much thought, and I did test it at one time, however right after running command.  I was fooled into thinking that was normal, not a one-time event.

 

My mind is clear now.

Ok. I fixed it. I reset the variable chanels back to variable. By using the fxd key as a toggle. Now they all run perfectly. Thanks for all your help!
