Fwiw.....I've check the state tax laws in all the states that we have ever shipped to, and we fall below the sales tax reporting requirements for all interstate shipments. Therefore, we will continue to NOT charge any sales tax on purchases shipped outside the state of California.
When u put something into the shopping cart on our website, it will show sales tax, UNTIL YOU ENTER YOUR ADDRESS. After entering the address, the sales tax will dissappear if the sipment is going to any address outside of California. I will be talking to the website ppl to see if we can change this so that the initial appearance of sales tax to other states no longer happens.
We do have to charge sales tax for shipments to addresses in the state of CA, as it has always been (we are located in CA)
Ebay is now charging sales tax on all purchases, unless u file with them for an exemption. The are considered a facilitator in all 50 states, afaik...which means the seller has to collect sales tax. Ebay is collecting the sales tax for the sellers, apparently. Best i can figure, anyway.
Other big sellers are apparently collecting sales tax in many interstate sales too.
Now...almost every state says that if I dont charge u sales tax, you are responsible to pay the sales tax directly to your state for out of state purchases. Every state is different, and there may be a non-reporting threshold, and i think most states try to collect it along with your income tax ("sales tax due on purchases made out of state")
Im just sayin.....
