I am wanting suggestions from other modelers as to what colors you used to paint heavyweight  AT&SF passenger cars. I have read or researched a 'truck brown' color for the trucks and a different olive green color for the body of the car. I hope to simulate this on O scale models with scalecoat or tru color paint.

All suggestions will be appreciated.

This is my first venture into Santa Fe modeling. Guess I am getting tired of ACL purple and Seaboard citrus.

I was about to suggest Scale Coat GN green as a pleasing, brighter version of Pullman Olive.  I use it for all my heavyweights because I prefer the lighter look.

Then I read your reference:

Russell Straw says, "If you are not into mixing paint, a very close match to what is believed to be Santa Fe Coach Green is Badger ModelFlex 16-65 GN Green. I have been using this on all my cars lately and find little difference between them and my older cars painted using the old Floquil mix."

Thanks for your post BOB2. Since I first posted my question, I have found tru color paint labeled Santa Fe heavyweight green. Anyone ever used it? Also, what is different about the paint color for the trucks.

I have one of the Walthers HO Santa Fe coaches and would like opinions of whether these are close to the real cars. The trucks seem darker in color, but green.

All opinions appreciated.

Very interesting. One of my future projects is to modify several GGD heavyweights to mimic early air conditioned Santa Fe cars with all the external roof panels. I will have to respray the cars for ATSF green. It seems a touch of yellow mixed with Pullman green will probably do the trick.

Thanks

Ron H
