How well do they run under conventional?  Obviously there will be sacrifices in low speed, how bad is it?

I'm tired of the issues across the board with the "other train manufacturer" and I'm thinking of finally getting off the fence with MTH.

I currently own a Lionel TPC unit that does a nice job of conventionally  accessing  the stationsounds , coupler etc.

I'm not thrilled with DCS , I would consider adding it in the future but my buss wired layout would possibly require some work to make it function properly.  Maybe conventional operation is a better way to go for "long term" trouble free operation of any brand given the lower voltages.

I'm a long way from retirement. I'd like for the trains I have today to still be operational when I really have time to enjoy them. The overall lack of MTH posts good or bad makes me think Mikes trains are busy keeping folks entertained and off the forum.

A video of a scale PS3 steamer in action conventionally  would be ideal if anyone could provide one.

I used to be  a big MTH guy, plus I'm a steam guy.

I refuse to purchase MTH PS3 steamers as a conventional operator. The "lock up" syndrome when stopping is not acceptable to me. MTH has said it has "always" been an issue going back to the PS1 days. Fake news. I have a few very early PS3 steamers that were fine as are many older PS2 steamers - they will very gradually coast to a stop in conventional. This issue started with a 2014 produced engine and they all have it. MTH has told me "everyone uses DCS so it isn't worth it to us to fix it". As a result, it isn't worth it to me to be a customer. I unfortunately discovered this with an MTH Railking PS3 Mikado. I had issues with the train derailing, gearbox slipping, traction tires coming off, etc. I don't run them hard either but the sudden lock up of the drive train now common with PS3 steam, I believe, was a factor.

Don't even get me started on that wireless drawbar. Quite frankly, my displeasure with PS3 steamers got me into buying Lionel Legacy steam. I still purchase PS3 diesels (I bought a new SD40-2 yesterday) which have the "lock up" problem only when the smoke is on. As I don't run smoke in diesels, it isn't an issue to me.
