Just a few pictures of the refinery.....sorry for the bare wood in some places and train shelves in the background.  To be honest, the train displays in the background are sort of ignored by the eye when you are standing and looking at the refinery in person....but the camera makes it look worse!!  Anyway, hope you enjoy!!

Thanks for looking,

Alan

Thanks Alex....you have given me an idea.  To get you two over here, all I have to do is NOT post a video.  Yep, that is the plan now!!  OK....I am still playing with the software and trying to get it up on my YouTube account.  Perhaps this weekend....

Thank you Dave....I am sure you will do a better job than I did on mine.  I used to live in the Northwest Indiana area where the big refineries are and just from observation I came up with my model.  There are a few things I did not construct myself...the two big MTH tanks and the two MTH loading platforms.  Otherwise, most everything else I put together by using a Piko kit and a Plastruct kit....then I bought a whole bunch of Plastruct tubing, fittings, etc.  I also used a lot of PVC piping from Home Depot along with anything that I could re-purpose.  I even used part of a Phoenix Oil kit....  A couple of issues ago, I had an article in the OGR magazine on how to use the large outdoor Christmas ornaments to make spherical storage tanks....

Bill...thanks.  While I recently expanded my refinery to 9 feet or so across, it is Brian that is moving his as he has a couple of wonderful projects he is working on...wait till you see!!

Thank you Jeff...got your e-mail and will be in touch.

Wood...thanks for the nice comments.  Read above for a few details.  Like I said, for the most part, I used PVC and PVC caps to make the tanks.  A person that works in the oil industry would immediately see that my model is not exactly accurate....I am just trying to do enough to impress the eye...

LOS...thank you so much.  You have been so great about taking the time to make comments on what I am doing.  Your layout is coming along fine too...I have been following your progress!

I agree, you totally nailed it Alan! That refinery looks great.

That was you? I never put two and two together. I enjoyed that article. I thought it was a very ingenious idea.

Thanks Alan...coming for THE EXPERT like you means so much!!

Hudson J1e...thanks!  Yep, that was me!!

Spence...once again, thanks very much!

David....thank you....a layout video will be soon....

Ben..thank you my friend!...I agree and that is why I have lots of industry going on!

Choo Choo Charlie....thanks.  I wanted to have plenty of pipes coming and going to at least simulate something you would see...even though many of them are not prototypically correct....just wanted to give that feel...

Michael...see my comment above.

Thank you Jim!!

Thanks Bill...

Brian (Traindiesel)....thanks!  That is what I am trying to accomplish and appreciate your comment.

Brian (PTC)...thank you my friend....can't wait to see what you are up to on your layout renovations.....I know they will be fantastic.

Thanks Charlie!!  I may be interested in the flare stack!!

Hey, Alan!

Your refinery doesn't need any more accolades, but I would like to add that it is even more impressive in person. And when you describe how you built it, then it becomes even more admirable.

Your refinery, your train station, and your skyscrapers are among the many excellent things you have built, they define you layout, and make it unique. I am not going to attempt to select my favorite, but the refinery would certainly be a front runner.

What I cannot understand is why the Living Well magazine, when it featured your layout a few months ago with a very nice article, failed to include pictures of the refinery!

Hope to see you soon!

Alex

Alex (Ingeniero No1)...your nice comments mean very much to me especially coming from a good friend and modeler like you!

Thank you Chad!!

David1...you just get in that car with Alex and come on down!!  Thanks...

Thank you Steve!!  When I was growing up, we lived very close to the Standard Oil Refinery in Indiana and I thought it was beautiful....always wanted to model one.

Thank you so much Killian....glad you are active with us again!

Alan
