Happy Sunday guys.

Here are some shots of a Walthers (now Atlas) "built-up" gas station that occupies a corner of the Eastern District.

I added some paint and lots of Microscale Esso decals. Also detailed the interior and added some additional lights. Finally a "Miller Engineering" sign completes the scene.

For the first time in a long time, I've been working on scenery. I've decided to retire our old station and build a new one.

I started with a sketch.

The next step was a more detailed drawing in 1:1 scale. The station is constructed of foam core with an illustration board veneer.

Cardboard trim and paper windows are now being added.

Excellent detailing on the gas station, Donald.

Jumijo, the station is progressing very nicely.

Good job on the transformers, Trans.

Pete, the tower looks super. I really like the weathering.

I'm still trudging along with the bait shop.

Ice to keep worms and "ones" cold....

Hey guys. Thanks for sharing.

  • jumijo - nice job on the illustration board and paper station, very creative
  • Don - very detailed scene along the tracks
  • Joe - those transformers ara looking good, maybe a closer shot or two?
  • Avanti - I have been watching the tower progress for weeks, extremely nice
  • Steve - as always, blown away by the attention to detail, thanks for the advice about the air hoses. I also like the dumpsters you make, very nice.
  • Vulcan - the Bait Shop is outstanding
  • Dennis - I bought the book at York!! Great photos and advice.

Donald

Have been playing around with the new static grass gun from Scenic Express called Flockit.  Applied the 6mm  to wet fiber that had ground covers on it.

Think I'm going to go over this scene with some along edges of river.

Have been making a folder of all the neat scratch builds for future use.

Dennis, I thought your track work was perfect already.. That looks like a staged scene

Thanks guys,

Prr...

actually the static grass scene in photo is part of the demo piece we did at Timmonium show at beginning of month.  On Sunday Jim Elster from Scenic express and I were talking about static grass . I mentioned about wanting to experiment using modeling fiber as base with no glue, so we did right there at show.  I immediately bought one of the new grass guns (Flockit).  So this isn't on layout, yet

Once dry I can peel it up and place it anywhere on layout.  In fact much of the textured scenery on layout is demos that I reused when I got home.

Hey prrhorseshoecurve, the Jeep is an American Excellence model. A little pricey but then you get what you pay for with a limited edition model. There are no others that I am aware of. You can find a link on the Scenery Resource page or should be available thru Diecast Direct.

Patrick, I hope you are making a removable roof. Sure hate to see all that detail hid behind the walls.

TMack, you "flats" are looking great. Nice job with foamcore and cardstock.

The first thing i did before i decided to put interior in it, was to  take it down to the layout where it is going to sit. It is 8" in from the edge on  the layout and the windows are right at eye level or  a little lower, so you can well examine it(not that my details is all that great, may want to move it a little further in LOL) ,otherwise ,i wouldnt of invested the time. When i get it done , ill post a pic of it on the layout.

Sure is some beautiful stuff this week again!!

Many Compliments to those who have posted today~ amazing work and Always Impressive!

A while back I began a module to cover the access port on the layout. Its an area on my small table top layout where there is oil development. Actually the entire layout is modeled after the Bighorn Basin near where I live in Wyo. I got some great advice from several forum members on how to detail the pump jacks, many thanks to Bill D, Alan Graziano, ChiloquinRuss, and Jim M.

First photo is the un detailed module with the pump jacks temporarly place, next is a shot of the module in place on the layout, then an overview of the unfinished layout, ending with some close ups of the pump jacks. The module weighs nothing, its made from blue foam and True Scene Modeling Fiber and covered with local dirt

You guys do realize this thread is nearly a year old, don't you?

I predict that I will not quite finish the bait shop, I'll start building basements to go under my city block and leave them woefully unfinished. I'll build a switch tower/elevated watchman's shanty (never did decide) and not completely finish it. And almost year from now I'll start the Burlington Coffin Co. Will I finish it?

I guess we'll know two years from now.
