I am looking for some screws for Fastrack, I want them to be about an inch long. I would like them that length so they can really grab the foam in on the top of my layout but not go all the way down to the plywood.
Thanks

I buy mine at Home Depot or Lowe's - 1" or 1 1/8" if you can find it wood screws depending on the thickness of the foam you have. I don't remember the specifications but they are the narrowest of their length they have in stock, silver/greay, not brass, and pretty inexpensive
You'll want a Phillips #4 flat head wood screw. They fit the recessed (counter sunk) hole in the Fastrack perfectly. They typically come in 3/4" lengths. Any hard ware store should have them. I was able to find 1" length in brass at Home Depot.
You'll also need a #1 Phillips bit to turn them.
I use the #6 wood screws flat head. Length determined by the depth of your bench work. A wee bit large in diameter but have worked well. I could not find any smaller in the home store or local hardware stores. They still fit flush with the track. I still have to be careful not to over tighten them.

I went through this same struggle with my Fastrack and foam, which is 2" on top of my benchwork. The small diameter screws (#4) that fit the Fastrack roadbed don't really bite the foam well enough to hold it.
In the end I decided to just use some glue along the edge of the roadbed and have been much happier. If you sprinkle a little ballast along the edge of the roadbed at the same time you glue it, you even improve its appearance.

This worked for me. No foam to worry about though. (should have -didn't)
Have you considered not screwing the FasTrack down? I don't use any screws in my FasTrack and it has worked fine on my layout for years. No noise transmission due to screws and it is much easier to modify the layout.

Given my experience with carpet layouts, I agree with Earl. You probably can leave it for the most part. If you put half a dozen screws in the whole layout, just to keep the whole thing from shifting, that would probably do it.
As mentioned by Earl and John, Fastrack does not move much. On foam I noticed no movement. A little glue assures it stays where you intended without any sound transference to your benchwork.
Thanks everyone
I do not plan to screw down my whole layout, as Fastrack will not move a lot on it's own. There is one area where I have a draw bridge and I want to screw down the end of the fast track that butts up against the draw bridge. When the bridge is in it's open postion I do not want it to get knocked out of position.
