hey guys,

I'm filming a review for the new SD60e and I was wondering if anyone could tell me exactly what the two big vent extension pieces on either side of the area ahead of the smoke stack are for? Seems it's one of the many upgrades NS made and I Just want to make sure I have my facts straight. Thanks.

Those extensions are part of NS's "split cooling" system and are also found on the GP59E units, along with a couple one-off upgrades they've done.  There should also be an intercooler fan on a flat plate in place of the raised dust bin on those units.  It's a small fan similar to those used on F units and early GP/SD power.

Edit: note the yellow fan on 9-1-1's roof, above those air intakes:

Awesome, thank you. I was speculating that's what they were part of, but I wasn't certain. Kinda cool looking I think.
