This is on a MTH SD80MAC PS1 engine. I was running the engine a while back, when is stopped and the "magic" smoke started coming out- not good. When I popped the shell, I found a wire to the rear headlamps fried and broken. When running the engine without the shell, it acts normally, so I apparently turned it off fast enough to avoid damaging the electronics, despite frying the wire. I could not get the lamp assembly out, (How the heck did they get it in there in the first place?), so I elected to solder the wire back together and insulate it with heat shrink tubing. Done. I also reattached it to the shell wall, so it does not reoccur. I was about to button things back up when I noticed the smoke unit. Unless I miss my guess, it has zinc pest! This is the first time I've seen this in a smoke unit. Does MTH have replacement units with this configuration? If so, I'll order one from them.
Are all the fan motors the same between PS1 and PS2? If so, can I use the motor from this one in my PS2 RK Hudson (See other thread.)?
