We have MTH model # 20-2317-1, when running the A-B-A it started to slow down and then stopped and the smoke unit started to smoke. The lights in the cab are working. On the bench we tested the motors and they work. All the harnesses are plugged in correctly. Any ideas as what can be wrong?

If the smoke unit started to smoke, that might be a clue. Unplug the smoke unit.
Diesels shouldn't smoke anyway.

Does the lead unit run fine, your title says second A stopped running???? That is a slave board and may have a problem. You can run the lead A by itself and see if it works. If so, the harnesses and the slave board are suspect issues. G
The lead unit runs fine. I removed the B unit and put the back A unit and plugged it into the lead A unit and nothing. Lights work but the motors do not run. Can the harnesses be purchased, its a 10 pin?
Harness are rare but can fail, but Slave boards fail more often. The slave board needs to be tested and repaired/replaced. Tech with the proper harness can test it. I can do this if no tech in your area. Email in profile. G
