Before I reach out to Lionel directly with this question, I figured I would ask it here...
Does anyone know FOR SURE if the shells from an "older" ALCo C-420 (TMCC version from 2004) and a "newer" Legacy version of the same engine (from 2012-2013) are directly interchangeable without any major modification?
I am purchasing a #6-28218 TMCC-equipped Lehigh Valley ("Yellowjacket" scheme) C-420 (cataloged in 2004) from a fellow Forum member with the thought of swapping its shell onto a Legacy-equipped C-420 frame/guts so I can enjoy a paint scheme that I really like with the latest and greatest available sound and control.
Two examples of Lionel product #'s for a "newer" Legacy version C-420 would be 6-34748 (Lehigh Valley) and 6-34758 (Seaboard)...in case that is needed to answer my question.
I do not own a Legacy version of a C-420 yet; however, there are some deals to be had out there on leftover stock. I will pull the trigger if I know the shell swap can be done without too much effort.
Thanks in advance for any knowledge you all can share!
