I have 3 bottles of old track cleaning fluid, all 3 are the brand "Life Like". The one with the black top will be discarded for sure. I am not sure what i should do about the other bottles of cleaning fluid. Any suggestions on this topic would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Bryan

Bryan,

I've been using "LifeLike Track Cleaner" the better part of forty-years. There are those who say that this is better or I always use this. (Do we dare talk about our, "Simple Green King"? whoops! sorry Lee) I buy mine from Walthers. I generally buy two cases at a time when it's on sale. I would save and use the sealed bottles. This is my opinion. BTW your photos did not post.

I just make it a practice of getting rid of (properly) old solvents, cleaners, etc.  Some can have those "active ingredients" go inactive over time, leaving them either ineffective or worse, changing their behavior.  And it's just not good practice do have gobs of old bottles of stuff around - not that its dangerous maybe, but . . .

Track cleaning fluid, whatever you use, Lionel, etc. or 91% is alc, is cheap enough to get new.  I'd pitch it all.

Thanks everyone for your responses, more than likely I will probably go with your advice Lee,especialy with what you went through with simple green.Nicole I will play it safe and just pitch it in the trash or better yet pour it on my weeds like rockstar198 recomended. I have been using alcohol to clean it for years and I will just stay with that. Thanks again everyone.

What Lee Willis said.

Where I live, NW suburbs of Chicago, you aren't supposed to put chemicals in the trash anymore, you have to wait for a 'collection day', put it in the trunk of your car, drive it to the pickup point, they open your trunk while you sit in your car with the hazmat outfits on and take them out.

I would think if the only ingredient is isopropyl alcohol, you can just use them up.

Actually I would NOT use some unknown chemical on Fastrack since it has a plastic base, I would be more willing to try it on steel (only) tubular, so for instance, no K-Line Shadow Rail.  I have seen acetone shatter a piece of plexiglas, and brake  fluid ruin an F3 shell.
