A couple of weeks ago I was so pleased when my entire City of Los Angeles train (A-B-A E9s and seven 70 foot cars) fit on the upper shelf along the east wall of my train room, looking just like the shelf had been built for it, it was such the right length.
At the top below you can see the far end of the train on the shelf . . .
. . . and here is the front end. The 16 foot 4 inch shelf was just the right length. Or was, until . . .
I decided I needed the Vista dome car in addition to the seven. Patrick's Trains has shipped it so I figured I'd better get ready for it to arrive tomorrow . . . So here is the rear portion of the train on the shelf, with a gap for the Vista Dome car, now . . .
And here is the front on a cantilevered 19" inch extension of said shelf!
The A units are Legacy and the lighter one is on the cantilevered shelf, although I tested it overnight with 60 pounds on it and it did fine. (The B unit and all eight cars including the yet-to-arrive Vista Dome are MTH).
