Got an email from Jim King of Smokey Mountain Model Works, he's offering up a Southern gondola in O-scale:

I’ve decided to upscale the popular Southern 1945-rebuilt PS low side steel gon from my S scale CAD files and produce it in O before year’s end.  This is a continuation of my support for O scale and P48 modelers in response to AAR 70-ton flat car kit sales.

If you are receiving this email, you are part of my private group/spreadsheet that I use to record your interest in potential offerings.  You did not necessarily express interest in THIS kit but are simply being informed of “what’s next”.

If you wish to place/confirm a reservation for this kit, please respond with a note stating (1) how many and (2) in which decal font (Roman or Block/Gothic, which appeared in the early 60s).  You can see pix of the S scale pilot model here:

No retail price has been determined but should be in the $135-145 range based on the flat car.

At the August O scale National meet in Rockville Ted Schneff  offered his Rails Unlimited ACL class K-7 40'  low side steel gondolas for sale.   There probably is not enough demand for these to be made ready to run in plastic.  These limited production highly detailed urethane one piece bodies enable us to add  some prototype diversity in our freight trains.
